Modern Bathroom Vanities
|
Modern bathroom vanities are typically smaller than a traditional bathroom vanity, but what makes modern and contemporary vanities unique are the materials used. Whether modern vanities are used for economical purposes to take up less space in a bathroom or for aesthetic purposes, modern bathroom vanities, including economical and luxury modern bathroom vanities, are made of a combination of stainless steel, acrylic or unfinished wood, and glass. In addition, modern vanities for the bathroom come in rounded designs with a separate sink, such as for modern vessel bathroom vanities, or as a small, complete vanity unit. Both styles, however, are inspired by minimalist architecture or retro-inspired forms and some modern bathroom vanities even try to combine both, such as a wood and metal modern bathroom vanity with rounded corners. Wood is used often for modern bathroom vanities for a modern bathroom vanity cabinet. Wood for modern bathroom vanities comes in two types: natural and lacquered. While any type of wood is possible for a modern bathroom vanity including oak or cherry, darker woods, such as mahogany and ebony or walnut are used, often for the appearance of modern black bathroom vanities. Lacquered wood, especially darker woods, gives a modern bathroom vanity the appearance of smoothness when coupled with rounded edges and corners. Natural wood, particularly walnut, has the opposite appearance of a lacquer finish. Instead, natural wood allows the wood’s organic texture and grains to be exposed. Contrast and juxtaposition are other characteristics associated with modern bathroom vanities. One example of strong contrast found in many modern bathroom vanities is a natural wood vanity cabinet supporting a stone vanity top, particularly a natural stone like limestone, marble, or granite. To add to this contrast, many modern wood bathroom vanities have steel or another metal incorporated into the design, such as for legs, a faucet, or drawer knobs. Not only does the metal contrast with the wood and the stone but its brevity in the design accentuates parts of the metal and wood. Stainless steel by itself, however, can be used for modern bathroom vanity cabinet designs and tops. Aside from the materials used, certain shapes, influenced by both minimalism and retro designs, characterize modern bathroom vanities. A rounded vanity is typically a modern bathroom vanity, except if it’s a barrel shape. Instead, many modern bathroom vanities have rounded edges and corners and invisible seams and hinges. A modern bathroom vanity cabinet can have a D-shape or a rectangular shape with rounded corners. The design is expected to be fluid instead of panel-like or square. In addition, many modern bathroom vanities have a wall-mounted or freestanding design. For the former, a wall-mounted modern bathroom vanity cabinet is more stable and actually allows for more design options, including separate sinks and cabinets and modern vessel bathroom vanities with a sink sitting above the vanity top. In some cases, this design can give a modern bathroom vanity cabinet the appearance of weightlessness. A freestanding modern bathroom vanity, on the other hand, is not attached to the wall and, instead, stands on two to four legs. |
